Welding is a valuable skill.
Some skills within the welding industry are more valuable than others. In this exclusive report, we look at 3 welding skills which pay a lot more than most. Think about it: If you are going to weld, then why wouldn’t you weld for the biggest money possible?
#1: What welding skill pays $102 an hour?
Many plastic products are manufactured using injection molding. The molds are machined from a solid steel billet. A typical mold can cost $50,000. Until relatively recently, when a mold cracked, it was just so much scrap steel. These molds can now be repaired with a tiny TIG set up or laser welding. Typically, this is done under a microscope! Tiny precise beads build up the damaged area, which is then machined back to the original shape. $102 an hour is actually on the low side for this work. You can see why. Wouldn’t you spend $1,000 or even $3,000 to save a $50,000 mold?
#2: What skill can easily pay $20,000 to $80,000 or more a month?
Fabricating and installing roof top cell towers, and just platforms and stairs for rooftops is a business with a lot of demand. This is just good solid, heavy mild-steel construction. A friend of a friend started doing this from his garage and yard at home for the first year. The city shut him down, so he rented a commercial building. He recently won one job which will employ eight welders for the next year. Profit margins on these jobs are good.
#3: Pipe welding. Make $70,000 to $100,000 a year.
Pipe welding requires that the welder can pass a 6G welding position test which is a pipe joint set at a 45 degree fixed position. You can see, welding a round object set at that angle would mean you are welding in just about every position you can imagine. Only about 5% of all welders are qualified to do this. I received a letter from a student the other day who said:
“I passed my 6G cert test on Oct 29. After one short month of looking I got a contract job welding pipe and structural. My base pay is $30 per hr with a $75 per diem. We have been working 7 tens and the money is rolling in. I have also got to know a few CWI’s and that is always good. I would not have been able to get the job without my cert.”
What should you do next?
